Brainworx digital v2 review
Brainworx bxconsole SSL 4000 E and SSL 4000 G Based on the legendary Solid State Logic 4000 E and G consoles, and officially approved by Solid State Logic. Clearly Brainworx are avoiding use of someone's brandname here, for reasons that didn't take much internet sleuthing.
#BRAINWORX DIGITAL V2 REVIEW SERIES#
The Brainworx bxconsole N, E, and G plug-ins are predicated on accurate digital models of the channel strips from Neve VXS, and 'British' E and G Series consoles. They have developed the biggest part of our PA catalogue, including most of our analog modeled plugins! And BX is the biggest 3rd party. Brainworx is arguably the most versatile plugin developer out there. I don't know what style you mix but if you mix live drums do this: Mix the drums with the waves SSL channel. I'd recommend testing them, demo them both. Over the course of a mix it just seems to do something nice with depth. I got the Brainworx one and after what must be a decade or thereabouts of using Waves SSL I reach for the Brainworx one. Every mix has a total of 9 instances of the same plugin and one without any plugins for comparison. Below are the mixes with the SSL4000E, SSL4000G and SSL9000J.
In this video I will go over the differences in sound between the SSL4000E, the 4000G and the brand new SSL9000J plugins by Brainworx, so you can choose which ones are the best for you. In some situations, you can even add cheaper plugins to your cart, which will discount your bundle below your previous total. You should wait until a number of the plugins you’re interested in go on sale, bundle them together, and then purchase a handful of them at once. Another excellent buying tip is to bundle their products together, which can save you up to an additional 60% on your order. They regularly send out insane deals that drop their products down to as much as 90% off. If you like your sounds big and bold then this is certainly one processor you can't afford to miss. Before getting too heavily entrenched in this list, I recommend that you sign up for Plugin Alliance’s newsletter (found at the bottom of their website). Add to that the ability to manipulate the stereo image and this plug can make things seriously fat. From adding edge to a bassline, to turning beats into savage beasts, the saturator brings depth and excitement. The effect on synths, loops and samples is equally impressive. Alter the balance between the affected and non-affected signal with the XL control and you can breathe life into a dull sound or, with more extreme settings, radically change its character. On acoustic sources such as guitar and piano it's possible to add brightness and attack with a harmonic richness that the original recording just doesn't show, and you really start to hear the space around drums and percussion. Add to that the ability to do that as a mid and side process and you have incredible control over not only how the harmonic structure is changed but also of the stereo image it creates. Splitting the sound into upper and lower bands, and being able to say at exactly which frequency that happens, enables you to pull out the harmonics in the upper area to add some vibrancy and colour, while applying little or no distortion to the fundamentals. Putting the sound through a straight distortion can get you part of the way but it's the more powerful lower harmonics that dictate when the distortion kicks in and that can make the overall effect too much. Often you want to bring out some upper harmonics without affecting the fundamentals. When used subtly, distortion brings out quieter harmonic parts adding colour and depth, but it's the subtle aspect that is hard to control.
